Building an AI Chat Agent on Our Own Infrastructure

Artificial Intelligence has significantly changed the way we search for information, communicate and interact with digital services. Applications such as ChatGPT introduced AI systems to the wider public, but for a business the real value begins when this technology can connect with its own website, services, data and systems.

At INTERNETi, we took this one step further by designing and developing our own infrastructure for creating specialized AI Chat Agents for businesses.

Not a simple chatbot with predefined questions and answers, but a system capable of understanding natural language, using real business data and performing specific actions through a conversation with the visitor.

Building an AI Chat Agent on Our Own Infrastructure

From a Simple Chatbot to an AI Agent

Chatbots have existed for many years. In their simplest form, they work with predefined rules and fixed responses.

The visitor selects a question or types specific words, and the system displays the corresponding answer.

A modern AI Chat Agent works in a completely different way.

Using Large Language Models (LLMs), it can understand what the visitor is actually asking, even when the question is phrased differently, written in another language or forms part of an ongoing conversation.

The interaction is no longer limited to a set of predefined choices and starts to resemble the natural way people communicate.

What Can an AI Chatbot Know About Your Business?

A general Artificial Intelligence model may know a great deal about the world. It does not, however, automatically know your business.

It does not necessarily know your internal procedures, services, prices, availability, special terms or data that changes every day.

This is one of the most important differences of a custom AI Chat Agent.

We can create a specialized knowledge base containing information specifically related to the business and define exactly which information the AI is allowed to use.

The system can therefore be trained to understand:

  • products and services,
  • business procedures,
  • frequently asked customer questions,
  • company policies and terms,
  • technical information,
  • large volumes of specialized content.

Most importantly, however, it is not limited to static information.

Connecting AI to Real Business Data

This is where the real difference between an AI chatbot and a true AI Agent begins.

Through secure integrations and APIs, the Agent can communicate with other business systems and use live data at the moment the conversation takes place.

Depending on the project, it can for example:

  • search real availability,
  • display products or services,
  • retrieve information from a database,
  • use data from a CRM or ERP system,
  • calculate an offer or quotation,
  • guide the visitor to the appropriate next step.

This means the AI is no longer simply a more advanced FAQ page.

It becomes a real interface between the customer and the business's digital systems.

A Real Example: AI Agent for Car Rental

One of the sectors where we developed and tested this technology is car rental, an industry in which INTERNETi has many years of experience developing websites, booking engines and specialized software systems.

A visitor to a car rental website may not want to immediately complete a search form.

They may simply write:

"I need a small automatic car from the airport for four days."

Or:

"I arrive late in the evening. Can I collect the car at 11 PM?"

Or continue with:

"And how much would it cost if I kept it for one more day?"

A properly designed AI system must first understand what the customer is asking.

It must then know when real data is required and communicate with the appropriate system instead of simply generating a possible answer.

This is one of the key principles of the architecture we develop.

The AI handles the understanding of the conversation, while real operational information continues to come from the appropriate authoritative data sources.

Why We Chose to Build Our Own AI Infrastructure

During the development of our system, we also chose to build our own infrastructure for running Artificial Intelligence models.

A modern AI Agent consists of far more than a language model.

It requires:

  • AI inference infrastructure,
  • applications that manage the conversation,
  • knowledge bases,
  • APIs,
  • control and validation mechanisms,
  • logging and monitoring tools,
  • security rules.

Having our own infrastructure gives us greater control over the way the overall system operates while also allowing us to evaluate different models and architectures depending on the requirements of each application.

This does not mean that every installation must operate exclusively on local AI infrastructure.

The architecture can be adapted to each project and can use local models, cloud AI services or a combination of both.

The Difficult Part Is Not Making AI Talk

Today, it is relatively easy to connect an Artificial Intelligence model to a chat interface.

The difficult part is creating a system that a business can actually rely on.

  • What happens when the customer provides incomplete information?
  • When should the AI ask for clarification?
  • When should it search for real data?
  • Which information is it allowed to provide?
  • What should happen when it does not know the answer?
  • When should the conversation be transferred to a human operator?
  • How do we ensure that an answer involving real business data is not simply a plausible response generated by the language model?

These are the challenges that transform an AI demo into a real business application.

An AI Chat Agent Tailored to Each Business

We do not believe there is a single chatbot that can simply be installed unchanged on every website.

A hotel has different needs from a car rental company.

An e-commerce store requires different integrations from a professional services company.

A tourism business may need multiple languages, real-time availability information and customer support 24 hours a day.

This is why our approach is based on developing custom AI Agents designed around the real requirements and existing infrastructure of each business.

What Can an AI Agent Offer?

Depending on the application, an AI Agent can:

  • handle a significant part of the initial customer communication,
  • answer both common and complex questions,
  • operate in multiple languages,
  • remain available 24 hours a day,
  • connect with existing business systems,
  • use up-to-date data,
  • guide the visitor from a simple question to a real commercial action.

For a business, this can mean:

  • less time spent answering repetitive questions,
  • faster customer support,
  • a better user experience,
  • more opportunities to convert website visitors into customers.

AI and Humans, Not AI Instead of Humans

The purpose of a properly designed AI Agent is not necessarily to replace human communication.

Its purpose is to handle the tasks it can perform accurately and immediately, while also knowing when a conversation should be transferred to a person.

A visitor can be served automatically in most common situations, while a special or sensitive case can be escalated to the business team together with the relevant conversation history.

This allows people to remain involved where they are genuinely needed.

From a Website to a Truly Intelligent Digital Channel

For many years, the main role of a business website was to present information and wait for the visitor to search for it.

Over time, forms, online booking systems, e-commerce stores and digital services were added.

Artificial Intelligence now introduces another level of interaction.

The visitor does not always need to know which page contains the information or which filter they should use.

They can simply explain what they need.

And the system can understand, search, respond and, where permitted, take action.

Custom AI Chat Agents by INTERNETi

At INTERNETi, we develop custom AI Chat and AI Agent solutions that can be integrated into existing websites and web applications and connected with the real data and processes of a business.

Development can include:

  • AI architecture design,
  • creation of a specialized knowledge base,
  • integration with APIs and databases,
  • multilingual communication,
  • integration with existing business systems,
  • development of custom tools based on the requirements of the project.

This is not simply the installation of a ready-made chatbot.

It is the development of a new digital tool designed around the way each business actually operates.
